WELCOME!

After more injuries than a person should have to endure while trying to be healthy, I have decided that I'm going to start all over and try to run like my body was made to. Yep, I've started to run barefoot and use minimalist shoes in the hope to improve my form, not get injured, and be that awesome lady at age 80 at all the races. I want to run until I am dead and hopefully learning from running barefoot will allow me to do just that!

My Running History

I started running about 9 years ago to lose some unwanted baby weight. It worked and I found that I loved running. I ran a local 10k and it was one of the best days of my life. I ran it again the following year. I wasn't as prepared this time, but still had fun. The following year I worked up to running 9 miles on Saturday and had a friend talk me into doing a half marathon that weekend. She assured me that if I could run 9 miles that I could certainly run 13. She never showed up! O.k., so she got sick, but what an excuse! I ran it anyway and was amazed that I could actually do it! I was having so much fun and actually seeing progress. So of course, I got injured the next month, and not even running! It was horseback riding! After refusing to quit running until the pain was so bad I couldn't even walk normal anymore, I finally quit running. Good thing I got pregnant shortly thereafter and because of being sick nonstop and then bed rest, I couldn't run. It was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. The much needed rest helped me to heal and I tentatively started running again. I was leery though. I didn't want the pain to come back. In the fall the kids elementary school announced a program to have the kids run 25 miles during the school year that would make them eligible to run the last mile of the Ogden City Marathon, thereby completing a marathon during the year. It really sparked my interest and the image of crossing the finish line with the kids running the last mile with me was almost overwhelming. It became the focus of much of my training and when it actually happened, I almost couldn't believe it! Completing a marathon was life changing for me. I can't wait to do it again!
